I finished reading The Novice last night and there is something which has struck me as strange and actually has every time i read it, i only just remembered about it :p

The paragraph before the formal battle where Sonea is awake and Akkarin comes into her room then disappears again.

This seems really surreal and out of place, and i cant figure out what is meant by it.

Is it Sonea hallucinating out of fear for him? Did he actually go in there, and why?

I cant make sense of it Sad

So what do you think?

I've always seen it as a scene that shouldn't be explained. I think it's one that should be left to the reader.

I've always imagined it to be that Akkarin is there and it's the moment that he realises that he has feeling for his novice. I think he's just looking in on her.

It's probably one of the most ambigious scenes and I agree it should be left to the reader. Originally when you read it seems to have a sinister undertone, but then in light of tHL it changes.
I don't have one clear theory but one of my main ones is he's simply concerned about her and wants to reassure himself she's alright. I'm not sure he realizes he has feelings for her then, but perhaps more simply that be begins to see her as more than just an annoyance and begins to have more protecting feelings for her that will later develop.

I very much doubt Akkarin would be reading Twilight! Or Sonea for that matter.

He must have imagined that he was Edward Cullen and that Sonea was Bella Razz

*is horrified* O.O

Akkarin is nothing like Edward..

And he was most likely reading history books like the ones he gave to Sonea

I dont think they have surnames, just house names. I wonder do any 2 magicians have the same name Smile Imagine if a particular name was popular, things could get confusing... Shocked

I often wondered about that -- I reckon if they are two with the same name then you just qualify which one you mean. That's what people always do with me and my friend.
