What would be disturbing, is if she found out that Akkarin was her father ;)
In BMT i am sure it says her father was from the houses, so he most likely became a Magician. I think it'd be cute if she found out it was someone like Balkan. _________________ "Whether it's good or bad, it's so unfortunate to wake up during a dream." - Judeau [Berserk] |

Awhh! That would be nice... The High Lord in White Robes, his daughter, The Black Magician, in Black Robes.
Wow... Might even take the attention off Akkarin as former high lord....
It'd be quite nice for a twist like that, after all, Sonea doesn't make much of her personal life... Except from Cery, no one from her life in the slums has any significance...
But then, I don't think Balkan would want the Very Powerful Sonea to know if he was her father... she might get a bit pissed at his abandonment
It would probably be someone that was aged around (At the time of tBMT) maybe .... late thrities to late forties? It would help if we knew how old her mother was at the time... of if her dad had her when he was a teen... and adult... and old man =S
LOL! If it was Akkain, he'd have been 12-13 when Sonea was born loll
I thought Kyralia was supposed to be conservative Xx _________________ *~.~*~..~*~.~*~.~*~..~*~.~*

When i 1st read book1, i really thought Akkarin wud be her dad :O
Im sure Kyralians frown upon teen prenancy (though the Elynes probably dont mind lol )
I love to find out who he is her dad, but maybe it'll be too late in the next trilogy... _________________ - ALCHEMIST -

Not unless he comes to the rescue with Cery to save Lorkin.
I thought she was going to find out that Rothen was her dad when i first read it :p _________________ "Whether it's good or bad, it's so unfortunate to wake up during a dream." - Judeau [Berserk] |

Yeah I thought maybe akkarin or Rothen too, They just seemed to match so well... and I figured it'd be a cool twist ^-^
I think the Elynes would mind (Sorry to sound contradictiong lol) Sorry, just I remember reading something a few hours ago...
Lemme get it for you
*Runs to her bedroom, picks up book, seraches*
*48 minutes later*
Found it!! =D
Regarding Issle...
The girl's eyes widened further still. "Lord Rothen taught you Control? He was in your mind?" she gasped.
"Yes." Sonea nodded.
"But he's a man"
"Well ... he taught me. Is that why you have a lady teacher? Do you have to be taught by a woman?"
"Of course." The girl was staring at her in horror.
Sonea shook her head slowly. "I didn't know. I don't see how it would make any difference being taught by a male or female magician. Perhaps . . ."
She frowned.
"If I couldn't have hidden away all my secret thoughts it would have been better to have a woman teach me."
The girl had pulled away from Sonea a little. "It would be wrong for a girl of our age to share her mind with a man."
Sonea shrugged. "It's just minds. It's like talking, but quicker. There's nothing wrong with talking to a man, is there?"
"No . . ."
And then Sonea talking to Rothen about her...
Sonea drummed her fingernails against the side of the cup. "Issle said something strange, too. She said male teachers shouldn't teach female novices."
"Is this Issle an Elyne girl?"
"Yes."
"Ah," he sighed. "The Elynes. They're fussier than Kyralians about the interaction of young girls with boys. They insist that their daughters are taught by women, and are so shocked if they see a girl of any race taught by a man that we've adopted this 'rule' for all female novices. Ironically, they're quite open-minded about the activities of adults."
So Tayend and other lads are accepted because they are adults, but for children... they're more closed-minded... _________________ *~.~*~..~*~.~*~.~*~..~*~.~*

Oh thank you for pointing that out
I remember that now. Id say they are over protective of their children, but give them a free reign as adults. Its ironic indeed...
Thanks 4 going 2 the trouble to find that! _________________ - ALCHEMIST -

Lol you're welcome, I was reading that bit when I got an email, then I saw someone replied a while before...
See, I didn't remember this bit
"Ironically, they're quite open-minded about the activities of adults."
And I was gonna post those extracts on "What We Missed" as a inconsistancy. Because Trudi said she originally set out to make Elyne the conservative ones and Kyralia to be "open-minded", but she ended up playing out event differently. I thought she forgot to change this part back or her change of mind came after the first book and it was an inconsistacny between them... I guess I was wrong =S.
But I love this way, how the narraters (all Kyralian) are the closed-minded ones, usually the narraters or the "good guys" are the morally superior ones - including "values". For some reason reminds me of Meyers' "The Host"... from the "bad huys" point of view...
It seems kinda stupid to post somethin gI liked on a forum about what I didn't like.. but... erm... it fits with the subject... kinda?

em , yes it does...
I dont think its an inconsistancy, they are just more protective of their kids.
I like how Kyralians are conservative, it makes the story interesting.... ur right, the narrators are usually open minded _________________ - ALCHEMIST -

It isn't an inconsistancy -- look at the "ironically". While adults in Elyne are quite liberal and stuff -- they don't extend that liberism to their children. _________________ "Strike a light or light a lantern! Something I have hold of has no head."

Ironic really
It would be interesting to see from an Elyne child's point of view in BMT... _________________ - ALCHEMIST -

Damn. Keep forgetting you havent read tMA.. =( When you do, Then ya can reply =D... tMA has a sachakan woman's point of view...
Lol how come everyone's saying it isnt a inconsistancy? I know there isnt ^-^ I thought there was until I re-read that part of the book and realised I was wrong =] _________________ *~.~*~..~*~.~*~.~*~..~*~.~*

Sorry I thought you were saying you thought it was one I mis-read your comment.
It might be a bit like Stara's PoV because of her upbringing but I won't say more because I don't want to give any spoilers away. _________________ "Strike a light or light a lantern! Something I have hold of has no head."

Awh haha, D.W. You'll get there soon enough ^-^
Lady Tya: I'm guessing because its over 600 years later it'll probably be much less strict especially since Elyne was never quite so.... Ug. Stara was obviously stifled by Sachakan rules... Probably just a bit... posh, for the kids... Boys not allowed to play with girls, eat seperatly? *shrugs* _________________ *~.~*~..~*~.~*~.~*~..~*~.~*

all the BMT characters (i mean point of view characters) are from Kyralia.
Wouldnt it be interesting if Trudi wrote a book with a different Point of View character from each country. Imagine if they were all best friends, that'd be funny to see how their different views conflict _________________ - ALCHEMIST -
