I wish that Trudi made more history-telling books like TMA... I want to find out about that woman in The Tomb Of White Tears, who was "fair and honourable" and "Protected the island with high magic", i want to find out about Armje... and whatever happened a thousand years ago that lead it to become abandoned, and that lead to that woman Having To Protect the Vin Island... Was there a war? Maybe it had been 1000 years since Sachaka had taken over Kyralia and expanded their empire? That would mean after 100 years, they got their indipenance, and 200 years later, the sachakan war, 700 years later, Sonea. But then, in Armje, the store stones... Higher Magic... in TMA, it was mentioned that Sachaka had let the Kyralians learn High Magic - while they were ruling them - unintentionally... So maybe Armje was older then that? Although this was Elyne, and sharing of magical knowledge was not common within a country, let alone over the border... especially not before the alliance... So Armje & the Woman existed much earlier perhaps... I thought maybe Armje was abandoned during Elyne being conquered, and the women buried in Vin existed when there was a need for a magician with higher magic to kill invading Sachakans? It was never mentioned that Vin had ever been conquered...

The Blood Gem that Dem Ladeiri had on that silver ring...I just want to mention that it had the Ancient Vindo symbol of High Magic (Higher Magic/Black Magic) engraved in it, I think its ancient, not Akkarin's or anything, as people have previously wondered - usually to do with the Forth Blood Gem.
Also, in the Chamber Of Ultimate Punishment, Akkarin had sketched a warning above the doorway - Why had it disappeared? Akkarin implied someone may have broken it off... that combined with Dem Ladeiri's enthusiasm persuading Dannyl to have a look in Armje... even Akkarin thought it was fishy.. i think... he did frown.... Did the Dem go to see it with Akkarin? Did the Dem send Dannyl to his death? Also how did Akkarin find out about this place? I mean, it's purpose - enough to know to put a warning up... Had he been inside? Was he powerful enough to break the sheild? He implied he thought it was stronger then that though... Had someone else found it, gone in and used up a lot of the stones' power by going in and making them use their power to kill them.....Wha???

Gem stones... Armje is over 1000 years old, before the war, before Kyralia had its indipendance.... Maybe even before Sachaka ruled them? ... These Gems..... They were something Spppeecciialll.... They gotta be in the next trilogy.. right? What do you think they can do? Stroe stones they are called... are they all used as storestones? designed to release magic in differecnt ways? but in TMA, Stara's earring is a lil different..,..?

I've only read the books once, but I realised this, before Akkarin had time to contemplate what these item meant when in the Inchani's aclove, he changed the subject because Lorlen and the other higher magicians had found the books in Sonea's room & the chest in the basement room....
But I think that the Ichani woman was wearing a blood ring when reading Jolen's mind, so another Ichani knew that Kyralia was weak. But she only had one blood ring linked to one other Ichani because of privacy and trust issures among them. I doubt she or the other Ichani would allow another Ichani to read their mind, because of trust once again. So she pplanned to bring with her, to Sachaka, the Ring of house Saril & the shawl/cloak/whatEverItWas as a souveneir and proof that she killed a guild magician. Also Akkarin said she was a weak Ichani, so if she came back having killed a guild magician, the Ichani would know for sure he didn't have black magic, if he did he would have defeated her. Then again, she may have planned to plant these items in Akkarin's home or on him to frame him further...

This is something I'm interested in, did he know she was pregnant? Had they been talking of marriage? Had Akkarin confirmed Takan's suspicions of them having... Haha.. Relations... On their journey?

I noticed this too, but i only realised it was a Sachakan slave when I was reading The Magician's Apprentice strangly enough. I think it was a black magician, but if Dannyl had confronted him (like he was contemplating - to give him to the guard) he would have been killed, and the slave would have discovered the guild magicians were too weak to be black magicians - or "higher" magicians. So the Ichani would have found out sooner, however, the guild would probably have never known it was the Ichani slaves killing, they probably thought it was a rogue black magician, and Lorlen would think it was Akkarin, so would rother & sonea =S
But then, if the Ichani decided to make their move on the Fort before Akkarin was descovered to be using black magic, parhaps Akkarin could confess all he knows, and perhaps submit to a truth read? Or .. omg.. something just occured to me! Takan! They should have truth read him !!!=( (Then no one would have been exiled, and no one would have accidently ended up learning about Black Magic as Akkarin apparently feared...) But back to the point, if someone had submitted to a truth read, and the Fort had been attacked, I'm sure the guild would have believed him and maybe he wouldn't have ended up dying - if, say, the entire city gave him their power =D Or at least the guild - a few times over of course... Something like that anyway....

I suppose if it is anything else, it will be revealved... I just read that bit myself... Hmm... I'm thinking a Store Stone? Narvelan supposidly used the last one in existance when creating the wastelands in tMA... do you think they found another? The Traitors might have sold them another? although that would be foolish seen as though they are Sahcakan... Ermm.... Well we know they can be grown, and you need Higher Magic to make the stones/gem to have magical properties... You never know.. I really do think that Store Stones are going to play a large role in the new trilogy, especially seeing as though Stara discovered caves that might hold instructions to create them - in an ancient language, but it may be possible to translate with the help of the Duna tribes... The could be the first people to ever grow & create the store stones - well recently anyways...After all, in the event of an invasion, even if it someone had been smart enough to decode those wierd instructions to find the store of knowledge, without having to spend 5 months searching, i doubt they would have been able to rediscover HOW to use black magic, only of its previous existance.... Like Lord Sabin wasn't able to... I'm sure that the guild magicians weren't naivly stupid enough to not have realised this.... Hm.... Surely if it had been merely knowledge as the weapon, its existance owuld have been known to the high lord, or the head of alchemy... after all it is knowledge, not the skill of concentration and focus like what is likely to be found in the head of healing, nor is it the skill of strategy of attack and defence, like what is likely to be found in the head of worriors.... So maybe this is a weapon that only the head of Worrior would be smart enough to know how to use it effectively.... Oh My God.. it's this kinda of assumption (or thinking it was the SoK not an actual weapon) that makes people feel so ... stupid =o... I only assumed it was a SoK because it was suddenly mentioned in the next sentance after the mention of the SoK... but I suppose, it was in a new sentance... new paragraph infact now that i look... so it doesn't mean they are even linked!!

Certain Destruction. Maybe even after the use of the "Secret Weapon" that no-one Knows The Nature Of.... Knowing Trudi Canavan's Kind Of Writing.... I think this is too mysterious not to mean something... Wowwwiee!! =D ... Maybe its if the guild is completely ruined, probably by Sachaka, they hoped that the rare knowledge they had of higher magic might still survive, and make the Kyralians powerful enough to overcome the Sachakans again, probably centuries after they're taken over though =( ... Ah Well... Better then nothing I suppose =/...

Poor her, after all she's gone through and lost for Kyralia to stay Free from Sachaka... she'll probaby have to do it agian.... If Trudi kills Lorkin, her son, all Sonea has, I'm going to be sooo mad.. Or if Trudi kills Sonea, after all this time we've spent with her... No! Don't! Please!!!!!! I Will Be So Damn Depressed! He was, maybe his studies of ancient magic took say, a month. He was more determined then Dannyl, probably because of his "Thirst For Advanture"... or was that Hunger?...? Ah Well. Also, Akkarin mentions that he read Lorlen's surface thoughts the day he found out Lorlen knew of his using of black magic. Also, he mentioned - when he was lying to Davoka about having ofund hidden treasures & food - that Davoka might be able to read his surface thoughts, and any hint of betrayl would lead to Davoka reading his mind and discovering the truth. I think reading surface thoughts is part of higher magic, along with storing power given form a foreign source, taking power unwillingly - and through a broken/wavering barrier.. making blood gems, making store stones... etc.
He probably learnt it from that Secret Store Of Knowledge...

I know Akkarin's most likely referring to his lack of choice at learning black magic during his slavery, but what if theres some subtle little underlying meaning too? What if he means he didn't choose to have feelings for Sonea? As in, he wished he could choose not to have this attraction but he can't help it? I know I'm reading too much into it, but it was a little possibility which struck me on my re-read, and one I hadn't considered before, so I thought I'd share.
Opinions? Did anyone else interpret little things like this in a shippy way? Or is my Akkarin/Sonea love making me obsess over meaningless details? ^_^ |
Isn't it just that he didn't choose Sonea as his guardian, he had no choice because she found out about his secret, and so he had to take her guaridanship to use her a s a semi-hostage?

Sa-Charkan Empire? Sa-Charkan King. Maybe its a translation error? they're unlikely to be able to translate anything but the pronouciation of the words at most, not the spelling... makeing the "sa" was added after a few centuries or something, it said the Charkan King (Another country on a another island? The former ruler of a county that has been consumbed by another, and has now lost its individual identity? A country begining with "sa" and a country ending in, or being called Charkan? combining together to make Cashaka?) existed whenr Armja was still around, he came to give gifts... Maybe the stones that they used in the Tomb Of Ultimate Justice? maybe he grew them up in Duna, which was once his country? and gave them as gifts for alliances, or sold them for money & resources?

Wasn't the oval just his face? after that bit it says something like "other then that, he was invisable under his black robes"....? Invisable. Meaning his face was either hidden, or already mentioned..?

Now, let me think of things we missed in The Magician's Apprentice... God it was sad Dakon died =( I have not read it a second time, I only finished it the first time last night... As I described before, Dakon's death wass brief, probably breif so it could be included in some huge plot inb the new trilogy and every one will suddenly remember him unexpectedly and be like "OMG THATS HOW HE DIED!!! Wow...!!!" ... Drained of his power... Not scrath nor cut.. What's your theories? at first i thought it was just a scratch, and the power was withdrawn slowly, then he was healed after death. Then I thought.. Stara... The images of that gem which seemed to take/stone the power of the other man in the images on the cave she discovered.... Did this person use higher magic to take this man's power, then put it into the stone like Narvelan did with the Emperor's power? or did this person use the stone to take the power, and store it in the stone without direct contact? without having to cut him? Maybe the power coulkd be taken form the stone bit by bit as of when this person pleased? How Cool! Was this how Dakon was killed? Was it by one of the Traitors as they call themselves. Or was it a cunning assasin? Or was there a subplot not mentioned, where Dakon gave all his power to another - Like Akkarin did =(.... or maybe he was exaughsted to death like Lorlen was =(...? Theories?

A rather random thought occured to me... Maybe Trudi killed Lorlen because he wanted to "free" up the spot for another a point of view.... Maybe a Traitor =D
Because Sonea will obviously still be talking, once she leaves (i hope she does leave..) for Sachaka to find Lorkin, Rothen will be there to report to us on what happening on in the guild. Then Dannyl can report for Elyne, Cery for the "underworld" and the fifth (Trudi never goes beyond 5 point of views...) would be a new character, probably a sachakan or someone in Sachaka.. I doubt it owuld be Lorkin.. but it could be, or someone travelling with him? Takan? ... God knows. But, Theories?

Gosh, I think I aged a couple years after reading THAT post!!! lol
But well done for your enthusiasm
I have to admit, I also wondered what Tayend thought of Akkarin...I was surprised he didnt accidentally start gushing about him: "I actually spoke with him, Dannyl, cant you believe it?! Me? And now he's famous and the High Lord and all! I still have that lock of his hair I stole from him, hidden under my pillow..."
And then there's just this long awkward silence, and Dannyl's like "WHY did you have to tell me that?!"

I guess she's a servent so she walks around the place all the time right? I mean, she told Ezrille and Yaldin ( I think that's their names?) that he was taking sleeping drugs - because she was worried about him, she puts her concerns about him over his "orders" or "wishes". So I'm guessing she doesn't know enough about Magic to know the blood ring is blood magic.. if Akkarin summoned her or simply searched for her, he could give her the ring and tell her not to tell Rothen, that its just there so Akkarin can keep an eye on him... So that Akkarin can track his greivance progress.... He has a way with words.. I'm sure he could persuade her, He'd only have to ask Takan to give it...
Although as I discuss this, I kinda doubt it.. I mean it would keep and eye on Rothen, but Trudi said if you looked closely you could tell, and when I look cloesly, every shred of evidenc e (All is remote... extremely Remote.) points to the Head of the Guard... But then.. I cant think of a time he would meet with Akkarin.. plus he knows theres a red gem on the murderer... Maybe Akkarin put it there secretly?n I dought it.. although Tania or the Head owuld make sense...

I have to admit, I imagined most of the male main characters to be good looking lol Not realistic HaHa
I just know someone has the answer to the 4th Blood Gem, and i keep thinking it'll make sense when we hear it

(LOL Nothing about this books is all too realistic So Dont Worry, like I say, the imagination is not logical... =D)
I agree, I know Trudi said someone got it right... But I don't think even that person knows =C... So how will we?
She says if you look closely you can figure it out - but if we look closely, there's so many potencial ring holders! Which one? She'll never confirm or deny, at least not within the next few years, so what can we do? We could guess and hope we guess right, but what would be the point? We wouldn't even realise...
Unless there's a scene of Akkarin directly giving a ring to someone, but that's a completely different matter, and anyway, you don't have to look closely to see something like that, and if it were that obvious SOMEONE WOULD HAVE FOUND IT BY NOW!

It's driving me... well I'm mad already, madder? I think. I'd never though of Tania either, the problem is there seem to be so many possible candiadates and no-one clear favourite IMO.

Very True Both Lady Laura & Lady Tya, Do you think we'll ever know? =(
I think this is the only mystery that I doubt will be resolved/revealed in the next trilogy... it seems like such a tiny detail, and Sonea didn't exactly dwell on it, I doubt she would have asked around to find out.
But you never know, one of her first lines could be "It was simple really, all this time, his forth blood gem had been in the artificial implant of my Uncle's leg pin" Though I doubt it'd go exactly like that... Sorry, been watching lots of "House" ^-^
Arh. I think its sticking in my mind more because I know she put it there deliberatly and that we're supposed to be able to figure it out... but I just... I just CAN'T.

Here's a little fact, I can't remember if a cause/reason is mentioned in tMA, but Sachakan women smell "Spicy" although, as far as i know, it's only the Traitors... I only realised this after the last chapter of tHL. Cery smells Savara behind him...
A familiar spicy aroma filled his senses.

I used to get fustrated trying to figure out who had the gem, but now im trying to just forget about it.
Maybe its really obvious.... that would annoy me if i never figured it out

I don't think it drove me half as crazy until I realized there was an answer. Before I was just like it one of those loose ends and no-one knows not even TC-- but then reading her comment(s?) on it made me really want to find out who has it.
