I knew this would happen Embarassed

I didnt dislike him, just he wasnt my one of my favs any more. I suppose I became a bit de-sensitised by the story, cos I knew what would happen and how things turn out. Maybe It was a defence action: I didnt want to get too attatched to him this time around, cos then it would be worse when he died.

I think thats why i tried to distance myself with his character Shocked I still like him though, dont think Im mean Rolling Eyes

Sorry about my response -- I can be a little over the top when it comes to Lorlen. I can understand where you're coming from, I don't agree with you, but is does sort of make sense.

Aw, im happy your not mad Smile

But i understand your view completely: I was very surprised with myself when I read BMT for the 3rd time, & I didnt love Lorlen as much.

I still respect him and sympathise his situation Smile And I definately still LIKE him quite a bit, poor guy goes through so much... Shocked

I have to admit, part of it was a bit of annoyance seeing as how i knew how the story turns out. Since i knew Akkarin was good, all those parts with poor Lorlen worrying & feeling betrayed made me want him to find out the truth sooner. Thats not the character's fault at all! Smile

I hope you wont judge me too harshly, I love hearing your views Very Happy

I really don't... I just love Lorlen so much, he's so nice and all.
I've always blamed Akkarin for thinking he couldn't tell Lorlen, to be fair though those memories were painful enough for him to tell Sonea, it would have probably been worse with Lorlen who'd want to know why he hadn't told him earlier or tried to contact the Guild for help. I can see Akkarin's reasoning but I've always regreted that he had to leave Lorlen in the dark. But at least Lorlen knew the truth before he died... not much but a small confort nonetheless.

Yes, it does help a little that he dies knowing the truth... and he died so bravely...

I would have liked to see Akk & Lorlen in scenes where they were friends, like in the past. Before the Black Magic stuff came between them...

Same -- although my imagination was fairly good for them!

Id like to ask male BMT fans, do you wish there were more female characters? And do girls wish there were more females? Very Happy

And Id like to say...well, all the male PoV characters are really polite & thoughtful etc... They're rarely immoral or,well, act like many guys do (I hope you know what i mean lol ) That's probably why we love them so much!!! Razz

Never really occured to me that there was a gender imbalance in BMT. There really aren't that many female magicians in it, aside from the novices in Sonea's first class. So no, I don't wish there were more female characters in BMT because it never occured to me. Doesn't particularly matter to me if they're male or female.

In a way, you could look at the BMT as a gaggle of aristocratic, overly polite and pompous bunch of men, aside from the predominately female healers which always seems to give an air of competance and efficiency to me. I find it quite amusing to look at it like that.

I think the reason most of the characters in the guild are so polite and considered is because of how strictly they're schooled in discipline. It's hard to find room for snide remarks when you're getting so much knowledge crammed in there.

So my turn now Very Happy I'm a girl.

Favourities: Rothen in the first book, Dorrien in the second and Akkarin in the last Wink Also Dannyl and Tayend were okay.
Hated: Fergun, Regin, Akkarin when I was first reading 2 first parts Embarassed
Don't liked: Sonea, Faren, Cery, Savara, Lorlen (sorry, but it pissed me out when he believed so easily that Akkarin was a bad guy, he was his friend, so why haven't he tried to talk about it?!)

Nice to hear a new view here vampire lover Very Happy

So, you didnt like Sonea? Its interesting to hear that, plz tell us why! Smile

Lord Tiakin, I didnt think about the lack of females at the time lol Just lately, I thought Id like to hear others views on it Razz Very interesting notion of the "overly polite and pompous bunch of men" LOL in contrast to the efficient female Healers. I think what i was trying to say about the guys was that none of the PoV males were like the males in many other fantasy books (not that thats a bad thing though). I suppose reading George RR Martin's books, his males usually get drunk & visit brothels/speak of women as items of pleasure... I know Its probably useless to compare BMT males with other books Confused Just its interesting how a female author makes her males more respectable & polite (though I know this wasnt just because shes a female writer).

Ok, Im not sure if im making a clear point here, plz dont judge me too harshly Smile

I liked the imbalence it made the guild seem more realistic as when they say somwhere they would hoard their daughters (maybe somewhere else) and their sons would be allowed to go into the guild but daughters would be more valuable to be married off

Why I don't like Sonea...? Hmm, it's a difficult question Razz Maybe because she seems weak for me. At first when she wanted to go back to slums - it was stupid, even if she done it her life won't be the same any more and she should know it. Then hidding from Akkarin in the library - I understand for first 2 weeks, maybe a month when she was really scared, but after that time it was a bit silly - I would spend all my free time in my room just to make him mad Twisted Evil And at the end she shouldn't use the magic in the way she done, I'm sure there was a way to kill Ichani without killing Akkarin... Sad

Yes, its more realistic that the majority of magicians are male, seeing as how rich families marry off their daughters Rolling Eyes

I loved Sonea's feistiness in book 1, but I felt she didnt get an opportunity to display this as much in book2. Confused I can understand your view Vampire Lover. And if I was her in book1, I would be delighted to join the Guild, in order to help the dwells as a magician. But i still understand why she was reluctant.
