Suggestions to Rebuild and Stablise Imardin
These are ideas that have floated around my head, been formed in word on OneNote and am now just posting to let others develop, criticize or possibly compliment. This is basically a report like a minister would make today in our government for recommendations on change of policy etc. ----- Report Outlining Suggestions to Rebuild and Stabilise Imardin and Kyralia after the Attack of Sachaka’s Ichani Written by Lord Longmore Member of the Magician's Guild of Kyralia Aims Within this report I intend to propose ideas and suggest possible plans that will ultimately lead to the restructuring of Kyralia. I will mainly focus on Imardin due to the aggressive attack by the Ichani however solutions such as aid are offered for other parts of Kyralia. In previous times we have given the King and the Houses a priority above the dwells. In this report I attempt to not only break that tradition, but also restructure the core values of our society so that the rich poor divide is minimised. I intend to achieve this by creating services aimed at Dwell based users. Money should not be our only motivation. Striding to improve this city for all, should be. Unfortunately some of my ideas are controversial and time consuming. They will require the full force of the guild however the King may not back them. This will be our crowning glory, as we will have to stand up and continue onwards with our view. Already developments are underway but all for the wrong reasons. I'm sure many of the Guilds pride themselves on the recently established hospital however I do not. It was created merely as a reason to retain our greatest defence, Sonea. While some have assisted without asking, others will be forced to follow. My plans require the entire guild, including novices to assist. Should they not the development will only take longer. Application of Aims To achieve my aims I have devised a method of fairly distributing the Guild's abilities. I have created groups each armed with their own tasks and individual aims. Ultimately the groups should take one year to completely repair and improve the city. Hopefully, the challenge will cause some to reconsider their contribution to Imardin. They may continue to work outside the confines of the Guild there after. I currently plan for 10 groups. They vary in size from small to half the guild. Their structure can be found later on. Yet before this can be achieved I have had to record the guild's structure after the aftermath of the attacks. The application of the aims will take a long time. The training of black magicians and the magical enhancement of our defences will require hard work and effort. I believe that 6 months to a year should be devoted to the rehabilitation of the city. Novices will learn much from the experience, while recruitment groups can build up a large base of future novices or power supplies. Guild Structure (Imardin) ***Requires More Time and Effort. My Attempt did not add well. Would be better for someone with better knowledge of guild to complete*** Recommended Groups <*>Hospital<*>Social Centres<*>Recruitment<*>Defences - Training<*>Defences - Wall<*>Defences - Black Magic<*>Building<*>Trust<*>Guild<*>Country Wide Hospital The main hospital established outside the gates of the Guild has been a big success; however it is viewed in the eyes of some as a temporary aid. We as the guild owe a duty of care to the people of Imardin. I recommend the development of the current hospital with the focus of ten permanent volunteers. The hospital will become their responsibility, headed by Lady Vinara. The minimal volunteer age will be a 5th Year Novice. This is to ensure a high level of treatment. This will contribute to regaining confidence and removing mistrust within the dwells. I can identify several jobs that would be required under the Hospital. These include: <*>Treatment and Healing – Healers are required to provide the Hospital’s main service<*>Herb Collection – Novices can be educated by the collection of herbs for the Hospital<*>Administrative Tasks – Novices or dwells that are literate can be used to organise paperwork within the hospital<*>Structural Development – Magicians will be required to repair and maintain the hospital. Expansion is also another possibility .<*>Resource Collection – To maintain the hospital, resources such as bandages or ointments are required. Certain volunteers may be allocated the role of finding cheap resources within the city ’s market.<*>Site Development – Other hospitals may be required if demand grows so a member of the Building Group may be required to begin construction for when more groups become available.<*>Placements for Healers – When teaching resumes, the hospital can offer placements for training. This will benefit the Healer’s education and the hospital. Not all these jobs can be completed or fulfilled due to the lack of staff. With only 10 volunteers: healing, resource collection and structural development will be prioritised for them. Extensions and increased volunteers will occur once the Building Group have completed their tasks however this is predicted to be a long time. Social Centres I believe that for us to repair the damage between us and the lower classes then communication and active positive involvement in their lives should be accessible. I propose the building and development of Social Centres, run by the guild, around the city. These Social Centres would have many functions, from basic healing to recruitment. By creating a known presence within the city’s community we can begin to appear more approachable and inviting. We are servants of the city and while our work is of upmost importance, we appear to have little impact on the daily lives of dwells. These centres headed by individual magicians can aid us to create a stronger and more active guild Recruitment Since the battle that ravaged our city, our numbers have been low. We lack the power to defend ourselves should an unforeseen enemy attempts to storm the capital. By recruiting from lower classes, even just as power sources for Sonea, we can help to regain our standing within the modern world. Ideally I would like to see small villages developed close to the Guild where people with potential magic can be called upon regularly. Not only would this aid us in building relations with the lower classes, but our greatest weapon would never be far from power should we deem it so. Defences - Training The restructuring of our society will inevitably require the guild’s focus. I believe that all years except the 5th should have their timetables compacted so they may assist in the redevelopment of our city. These will be hard times and if our future leaders play a role in the repairs, we can ensure that our city will not see this kind of destruction again. Defences - Wall Our outer structural defence has fallen in to disrepair. Repairing it would waste time and man power that the guild is not able to give. The project should be considered but this would bear the issue of rezoning the city. Many outer settlements are considered to be part of the city. This would require the King’s agreement, which is not the most pressing issue. The wall will have to wait until time is spare to repair it. Magically reinforced defences similar to the arena should be considered. We were lulled into a false sense of security due to the treaty that binds the allied lands. Let us not make that mistake again. Defences - Black Magic Sonea is currently the only magician under the allied land’s control that is able to perform black magic. She is our only defence against the forces of Sachaka. I would ultimately like to see the training of 7 black magicians. I believe that only 3 are required if they draw strength from the surrounding population and the guild. The conditions for Sonea have been set and obviously they would apply to any other who learnt the arts. However their selection of the Dark Magicians would be a difficult process. A mixture of nomination and election would be suggested. Tight rules would apply to their education, possibly even having a separate area for them to learn. I would like to enforce that I do not condone the use of Black Magic as a defence to our city. Akkarin himself described the art as vile and despicable. Yet to protect the many lives of Kyrlians we must. Building This group would ultimately be responsible for aiding any building outside the city that cannot be done without magically assistance. This includes reasons such as speed or increased protection. Trust not complete Guild not complete Country Wide Two magicians will be sent to the Fort. It will be their responsibility to communicate with Sachaka. Diplomacy must not be thrown to the wind. The bonds between our two countries must be regained. Any chance of success is dependent on not being attacked again. Pre arranged codes can limit understanding on Sachaka's side e.g. can’t repair the wall means Low chance of international relations. A magician will be sent to each town (Kendil, Galia, Sarin, Calia, and Coldbridge) in an attempt to repair any damage that may have occurred during the Ichani entrance. I'd ideally recommend Healers but they are in short supply and those who volunteer with enthusiasm will be given priority. To protect out city from any further infiltration, possibly magically checks could be carried out at entrance gates to the city. With the aid of the guards/thieves tunnels could be monitored in those areas. Possible compensation should be noted for thieves as well. King may disagree but has changed his attitude towards the lower classes since attack. Conclusion not complete

it's interesting and gives a different point of view

Ora- 02-18-2008

Oh, interesting!

Longmore- 02-18-2008

Updated but in no way complete.

Lady Tya- 02-18-2008

Interesting, just a tiny bit of criticism-- there's no such thing as a 7th year novice, the highest year is 5. But I'm probably being overly picky.

Lorlyn- 02-18-2008

no I agree. I highest year is 5th year.

Longmore- 02-18-2008

lmao, great find. About the 7th year, I misread it once and assumed it to be so. I've checked the books and you guys are right as I expected.

Nefija- 02-20-2008

Interesting! Very creative....

Lorlyn- 02-20-2008

that it is creative. no one has done something like this before. makes you wonder what changes we'll see in the sequel's. We know the servants are allowed to join the guild as magicians but not much else.

Akala- 02-22-2008

Indeed. I really like it and it shows a really indepth and detailed look into parts of the story and the plot. Well done Longmore.
