Savara
Anybody else left wondering what the point of Savara's character was??? She didn't seem to do much. She didn't even kill the Ichani when she rescued Cery, despite whinging about wanting to kill one through the last two books. Then she left and we never found out who her people were or why she was there or why she didn't want Akkarin to know of her presence. Any thoughts on the matter? Or do you think "her people" might come up in the sequels and be explained then?

Never mind, i found a old post on it and it seems to be as i suspected - she is pointless! hopefully she'll have some relevence in the sequels!

I don't think she's pointless at all ;) I've been re-reading THL recently, and, although we don't *know* the point of Savara fully, I think there are certainly things which make her very important... Firstly, she helps open the story up, bringing a whole new area, which we don't fully know about, into existence - I mean here her people. I think they might well come into the sequel. I sure hope they do. But she also marks a transition for Cery - fully away from Sonea in a romantic way, and she marks an important point, personally, in his rise to the top of the Thiefs. From boy, to man, if you will. I like Savara. Yes, she needed to be explained more, and opened up more, but I think she is far from pointless.

yes, I think your right. Savara might not be super important in BMT but she gives trudi room to continue in the sequels. Granted she could easily use Sonea as she is going to, but she gives it a plot...or something to go towards. Besides...we want to see more of sachaka and not just from Sonea's point of view. I would not mind seeing it from Savara or someone else there.

I like Savara as she is so mysterious.

i liked her too, but i didnt like that she and Cery watched akkarin die, she could eaily have helped, and probably saved him. tusk.

Akala- 05-25-2007

*nods* That is definitely true, one thing that does irk me. Wonder if Cery wanted Savara to intervene? I would have thought she'd've been of the opinion to stay away, to stay hidden, even to the end, as this was her way of doing things. Makes you wonder, eh now?...;)

yeah but she didnt have to get close or show her face, just shot a ball of magicness at the last ichani so sonea didnt have to take all of akkarins power. sorted.

which leads one to believe are all the people of sachaka like that? they see something that is wrong and refuse to do what needs to be done to fix it?

terrible.

which leads one to believe are all the people of sachaka like that? they see something that is wrong and refuse to do what needs to be done to fix it? Interesting, and I'm not sure. Savara's opinion, and lack of action, is not explored. It's just left. In fact, Savara and Cery's view (both physical and metaphorical) of the battle is just left alone. Cery is harrowed by the whole thing, as it states in the last chapter, but what he thought about the actual battle, we don't know. Are all of the people of Sachaka like that? Or all Savara's people? Or just Savara. *Why* did she have to completely distance herself from the events in Kyralia. Even if it meant Akkarin's death?

There are also her views and how she sees the world from a cultural view. She may not have believed that stepping would be the roght thingto do on many many levels. From believing that it would be dishonourable to protecting those she loves and cares for. she wasn't the top of her chain, so if that's the case, she many not have had 'room' to intervinence.

Akala- 06-03-2007

That's an interesting way of looking at it, I like that J. I'll have to think about that...:)

Thank you. She does mention at least once that there are people that she has to protect back in Schaka, and I think it's also indicated or hinted at that her group isn't that powerful.
