Sarika's Hill, Caloth's bowl.
Jmerc sits in the forest of Sarika's hill, waiting for Gecko to arrive. Beside her her dragons lies, several lids closed in bliss as jmerc scrathes her eye ridges. Caloth's eyes whirl a gentle green. Besides jmerc is a bag with several other objects she will require today.

*is behind some bushes, peering out. She was meant to come here, but is feeling more than a little bit scared, but also excited about seeing a tragon. Is trembling slightly, remembering what happened with her meeting with Akkarin and Varg.* *watches Jmerk scratch the dragon (how big is it?) and sits down, out of site in the bush, chewing a lip*

*watches as a faren spins a web in the bush, spinning its silky thread. Reaches out to touch the web, but the faren runs up her arm. Tries to shake is off, but this russels the bush quite a bit, so stands up, pretending she wasn't hiding* h..hello Jme- er.. Lady Jmerc.

Jmerc turns round and sees Gecko, "Good you've finally arrived." Jmerc stands and stroles over to the scared novice, her dragon following her. She surpresses a smile as Caloth makes an amusing comment upon eeing Gecko. Stopping in fornt of Gecko, Caloth steps beside jmerc. Gecko's eyes are widened when she saw the dragon, now comig up to jmerc's waist. "Gecko, this is Caloth, my dragon. Unfortunately she is growing to large for her to stay in my rooms for anylonger, so this area has been given over to create a home for her. Through we won't be making her a full blown bowl. For the moment we shall just be claering some trees. That will be your task when assiting me, for today anyway."

*stares at the dragon, unable to speak. Finally finds her voice* I.. I didn't think.. dragons.. were real... *stares* is it a boy or a girl? *nervous*

Jmerc hasitates and then decides there is no harm in indulging some of Geckos curirousity. "Caloth is a girl. Bronze, brown and blue dragons are male. Gold and Green are female. The gold dragons are the queens and the only ones that can lay eggs."

Really? That's strange.. *frowns* not good for reproduction if only the queens can lay eggs...

"Ah, but if the greens laid eggs as well, then the planet would be a swarm with dragons. There wouldn't be enough riders for them all and they'd die."

Why do they need riders? *curiosity overcoming fear* aren't they independant?

Not exactly. To a certain extent they are; they have their own personality, own mind, own body, they choose thier rider, but they need to bond with a rider as soon as they have hatched. With these riders they share a special link, a unique link. They can communitcate with thier rider, only a handful of people in the whole of the history have been able to commune with more then one dragon. A dragon needs a rider to guide it between. Once their rider dies they go between and die. If they don't bond when they are born then they simply die.

So.. the world wouldn't be swarming with dragons... because they'ed just die.. and the eggs would more likely be found (have you read Eragon by the way? I haven't... I'm just guessing... wondering if this is anything to do with it?)

(no I haven't read it) Yes, they would just die. So it would be best for the greens not to be able to mate. Through there is another reason. Green dragon's eat fire stones to produce fire, this makes them sterile. All eggs stay on the hatching ground and never go out of the wyer, the mother also guards them very closely. This means that they wouldn't be found lying about.

Oh.. *doesn't know what to say so fiddles with her robes*

"Well, we'd best begin. First our job is to clear some trees. Look for all the marked trees, they're the ones we'll take down."

*moves towards the trees, watching the dragon warily* how are we taking them down?
