Mirar- 06-13-2008

Mirar ran down the corridor to the classroom. He was late!! He banged open the door, and panted, "Sorry... High Lady... had to... see the... Administrator." Mirar dashed to the nearest seat possible, and pulled out his book from his bag. How could he be late for his first lesson? And moreover, his first HEALING lesson! Mirar, a dedicated novice of the Healing Arts, found it strange to be late for what he loved most.

Fayzorus Altador- 06-13-2008

Fayz turned as Ellen talked to him. "Oh, I met you in the Novice Quarters before," Fayz grinned, as he took out his book, "I'm not very new, you've probably never seen me because I was late for the Acceptance Ceremony, and had to take the oath in private in the presence of the Administrator." Mirar dashed into the classroom suddenly, startling Fayz. Mirar was a Healing Novice, and yet he was late for his first Healing Lesson.

Lorlyn- 06-13-2008

"shh. class time not social time. Don't worry Mirar. Your fine." said lorlyn, glancing at Mirar as he ran in.

Fayzorus Altador- 06-13-2008

Fayz grinned at the High Lady respectfully. "So sorry, High Lady, do continue." Fayz flipped his book to Page 36 and began reading. "I know that term, High Lady," Fayz said, pointing to the long word on the board. It was scribbled in one corner. "Anonymonotology," the word read. (Erh-nor-nee-mo-no-tor-ler-jee) "It is the unknown, most often natural, cause of healing. All healers aim to imitate or copy the ways of it, so as to heal wounds and cure illnesses." Fayz wondered, Was that from a previous class? It had not been written in the same handwriting as the rest of the terms.

Mirar- 06-13-2008

As Mirar flipped to Page 36, he gasped, "Thank you... High Lady." Mirar stared at all the strange terms on the board. They were all strange words which he did not understand. He hoped his smart cousin, Fayz, would know.

Lorlyn- 06-13-2008

Lorlyn listened to Fayz speak and glanced at the board. "ah Anonymonotology. That's a term for slightly more advanced healers but you are right in it's meaning. That's good that you know that term but lets stick with the basics for now" said lorlyn. "Perhaps we should start with the term Infusion. Infusions are tea like healing brews made with herbs for patients. They are made by putting the herbs in boiling water to exact the nutrients from the plants. Some healers will put the herbs in the water directly for a minute or two before taking them out, others will pour the boiling water over the plants" said Lorlyn. "Decoction's are not much different then Infusion's. They are boiled a bit differently and longer then infusions as using decoctions are getting the minerals out of the roots and other plant parts of the herb."

Lady Shadow- 06-13-2008

Looking down at the page in the book, Shadow tried to come up with an answer. Though she had not really any idea, she did have her thoughts on the powder thing, thinking it would probably be drying plants and grinding them to powder to use it in medicines. Listening to the explanation of the High Lady, she raised a hand to ask a question. "Excuse me, High Lady Lorlyn. But when making an infusion or decoction, when do you know you have boiled it long enough? Could you accidentaly make for example a decoction while you needed an infusion and would it harm the person drinking it?"

Fayzorus Altador- 06-13-2008

Oops, it had been from another class. Fayz listened to the High Lady's explanation patiently, absorbing 100% of the knowledge immediately. "High Lady, what are the differences in effects of an infusion and a decoction?" Fayz asked after Lady Shadow. I also wonder what are the equipment used? Fayz decided to voice this question later.

Mirar- 06-13-2008

Mirar looked dazed. Whaa....? Incocstions? Hey wait, it's Infutians? Erm, no, Decontuns? "Oh my," Mirar muttered, "Healing isn't as easy as it sounds." Glancing at his cousin, Fayz, he could see that he wasn't struggling with the information at all! I wish I was as smart as Fayz... After staring at his book for several minutes, Mirar looked up to give the High Lady a puzzled look. Fayz should have chosen Healing... Or maybe he is as good in Warrior skills as well... Oh well, time to focus on the lesson. "Invushuns are boiled... stuff, whereas Decalations are... boiled stuff as well? What's the difference?" Mirar mumbled softly.

Lorlyn- 06-13-2008

"No, you could not accidently make a decoction instead of an infusion. The difference between the two is the plant parts that are used. Green parts of the plants like the stem, leaves or flowers don't need to boil as long so are used more in infusions but if you use roots, bark or seeds it takes longer to exact the minerals from the herbs and they tend to be used more in decoctions. You can generally tell by the color of the water if it's ready or not. But that usually depends on the herbs being used in the infusion or decoction. Decoctions get the mineral salts out of the herb while infusions tend to get the vitamins out of the herb." "The only way an infusion or decoction would be dangerous is if you used a herb that is dangerous and not ment to be drank or if you use to much of a certain herb. It's important to know as much about the herbs your using before you do so you don't accidently harm you or your patient"

z-ell-z- 06-13-2008

ellen noted down all the uses about different parts of the plant's, then squinted at her writing such scrappy writing . she though squinted at what she had wrote she put her head up to make sure she didn't miss anything else

Lady Shadow- 06-13-2008

Nodding, Shadow noted all the information down. So basically, infusions were made from the above ground part of the plant and decoctions from the underground part of the plant. Looking back up, she listened to the question of Fayz, wondering about the answer.

Lord Borne- 06-13-2008

"High Lady is a powder a dry substance which is very fine and dust like particles which is normally made by crushing or ginding something" asked Borne feeling self-conciously

Mirlya- 06-13-2008

Mirlya felt herself being addressed, but decided to keep her thoughts to herself, so she had shaken her head and carried on reading through the book while listening to the other novices and their questions. Hurriedly writing down notes on everything the High Lady mentioned, she hoped that she would understand it all later. Right now it was just a little too much information!

Lorlyn- 06-13-2008

"yes your right Borne, Powders are dry substances that are fine and dust like. Basicly when we take powders we are cutting a herb up to very fine pieces. As small as we can get them. Powders can be put in food or drinks to make it easier to take. Some will add flavors, others will have hardly any taste at all. Powders also store well and can be kept for a lot longer and store better since it's smaller then dried herbs"
