I don't mind how magic is shown to work, they all have their interesting and fun aspects. The magic shown in HP is closer to how many cultures practice magic in really life.
You should really read David Eddings Lady Vinara, he also writes magix in the way you like.

If you do the book you'll want to start with is Pawn of Preophecy, or whatever the title would be in German, the main character is called Garion, and he has an anut called Pol. Just look for those and you'll find the right book.

i read the first series in abit other a week or two. I just stayed in my room over half term and read the first three book, but that was a long time ago. Back in yaer 9.
